Boat Trips & Excursions - if available

Ross Travel Group

The Garage, Allison St, Featherstone, Pontefract WF7 5BL, UK – 01977 791738

Ross Travel were just brilliant today with my party of Year 8 students. Beautiful coach, professional service and a driver who not only operated a tight ship, but also was very generous with his knowledge of London (everyone appreciated the tour guide) and also his coffee! A fantastic service and a company I would certainly recommend to schools.

Finding their bus times online was very easy

Local Parks & Gardens

Pontefract Valley Gardens

Mayor's Walk, Pontefract WF8 2RR, UK – 0345 850 7507

Lovely little park with a playground for the young children.

Pretty little park slap bang in the middle of Pontefract. Has Lots of cherry blossom trees making a tunnel over the path, very stunning when in blossom. There is a Bowling Green next to the park and a kids play area in the park its self. It is situated next to Pontefract Hospital.

Nostell Priory Holiday Park

Nostell Priory, Nostell Priory Estate, Nostell, Wakefield WF4 1QE, UK – 01924 863938

A very quiet and peaceful location with easy access into Nostell Priory parkland. Good for walking and enjoying the wildlife. A tidy site with fairly level pitches, shade from the trees was welcome. No motorhome service point so take a bucket to empty grey waste. Our pitch was not an upgraded one so only EHU but I believe upgraded pitches have water too. Shower and toilet area is clean if a little dated. No hot water in the ladies showers at 6pm. The showers have no pressure so the flow is woeful. Our 2 nights were pleasant and very quiet. The air ambulance station isn’t intrusive, the helicopter took off a couple of times but it wasn’t an issue. The cafe on site looked nice and popular with permanent residents, we didn’t use it so can’t comment on the food/drink.

We just got back from spending three nights here and there’s a few negatives and positives for my family and myself... let me first point out that we would return and is already planning on returning. The negatives.... and the rain was a contributing factor to this one, the mud! On the site it’s gravelled and on either side of us separating each caravan is grass, as it’s been raining it was quite muddy. We went with the intent to put our caravan awning up and found that trying to peg the awning down on the gravel was a useless task and they kept bending as we tried to hammer them in... in the end we had to set it up on the grass with mud... it carried on raining a few days and around the caravan was a muddy slippy mess and the tarpaulin we laid as a ground sheet was filled with mud along with the bottom of the awning... another negative is that there’s nothing entertaining for teenagers. Our teenage son on the second day was bored out of his mind. The shower had a mind of its own on one occasion when I was in the middle of my shower it decided to stop leaving me freezing and in addition it takes a little while to warm up. The positives is if you’re into nature walks it’s good for that. It’s peaceful and quite tranquil. It is also clean and the staff we encountered were warm and very accommodating, the bathroom is basic but the cleanliness is maintained. I would definitely recommend it for couples especially when it’s nice and dry.
